DESCRIPTION: EPW - Godemar Frères, (Geneva, active 1814 to 1824 per Loomes), quarter-hour repeater, 48mm, 14K gold or better (tested, with slow fade of 18K solution on stone, no fade of 14K solution on stone) OF original case with rear having armorial type engraving of a dog above a banner bearing Latin phrase "Vilius Virtutibus Aurum" (gold is worth less than virtue), signed gilt cuvette, white enamel dial, stylish gold sinusoidal wave hands, KWKS, cylinder escapement, 6J, standing barrel, gilt mvt, s#1928 within case. Gross weight of assembled watch 52.7 dwt (82.0 g).
CONDITION: Mvt: Running, repeat function occasionally returns correct number of hour strikes but frequently returns with an extra hour strike, quarter-hour strikings were consistently correct when tested, good repeat tone, overhaul needed if consistency of correct hour strike is desired, fine-plus cosmetic mvt condition overall, some scattered fine to micro-fine scratches, some spots of oxide to portions of steelwork; dial with light perimeter hls at 8; fine hands, hour with soldered repair inside tip; case shows little wear, ample micro-fine scratches to rear, small ding at right perimeter of rear and three additional pinpoint dings elsewhere to rear, excellent engraving detail; tight bow; glass crystal with edge flaking or chipping scattered in several areas.
